Intensive Preparation When It Matters Most

The summer holiday before the 11 Plus exam is the most important revision window of the entire preparation journey. Our Summer Revision Programme is designed to make every day count — structured, focused, and led by experienced tutors who know exactly what the exam requires.

Each morning session covers all four 11 Plus subjects in rotation, with daily past paper practice and marked written feedback so children can see exactly where they are improving.

  • Suitable for Year 5 completing and Year 6 starting
  • GL Assessment and CEM format papers covered
  • Progress report given at the end of each week
  • Based in Ilford — convenient for Redbridge and East London families

What's Covered Each Day

All four 11 Plus subjects covered in daily rotation — building on existing knowledge and filling gaps under exam conditions.

Maths

Number, fractions, decimals, percentages, geometry, and data. Targeted at the exact topics most commonly tested in both GL Assessment and CEM formats.

English

Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Timed exercises and close reading practice matched to real 11 Plus paper styles.

Verbal Reasoning

All VR question types covered systematically — word codes, analogies, odd one out, sequences, and cloze exercises — with speed-building drills.

Non-Verbal Reasoning

Pattern series, matrices, 3D rotation, and spatial reasoning. Progressive difficulty so children build speed and accuracy before the exam.

Past Paper Practice

Daily timed past papers in real exam conditions. Full marking, detailed written feedback, and a session to review common errors together.

Exam Technique

Time management strategies, question spotting, educated guessing, and paper management — all the skills that make the difference on exam day.

What Sets Our Summer Programme Apart

Maximum 6 Per Group

The smallest group sizes we offer — every child receives more teacher time and more targeted feedback than in a typical class.

Daily Timed Practice

Children sit timed papers every day in realistic conditions. By the end of the programme they are fully comfortable with exam pressure.

Marked Feedback Daily

Every paper is marked and reviewed. Children learn from their mistakes each day — not weeks later when the moment has passed.

All Four Subjects

Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning — all covered in every week so no subject gets neglected heading into the exam.

Weekly Progress Reports

Parents receive a written summary at the end of each week showing performance by subject and areas to focus on over the weekend.

Experienced Tutors

All sessions are led by tutors with proven 11 Plus teaching experience — not gap-year students or unqualified assistants.

How We Structure the Summer

1

Diagnostic Assessment First

Every child joining the summer programme starts with a short diagnostic assessment. This allows tutors to identify gaps and adjust lesson emphasis from day one — not halfway through the block.

2

Structured Daily Sessions

Each 3-hour morning is divided into subject blocks with short breaks. The first hour focuses on a core subject, the second on exam technique, and the third on past paper practice and review.

3

Daily Feedback Loop

Papers are marked that day. Tutors discuss errors with children before they go home — reinforcing learning while it is fresh. Parents can collect a summary sheet at pick-up.

4

End-of-Block Report

At the end of the block, every family receives a written report covering performance by subject, improvement over the programme, and recommended focus areas before exam day.

Summer Results

Outcomes from our summer cohorts

  • Children show measurable improvement after just one week
  • Most pupils gain confidence in timed conditions within days
  • Past paper scores consistently improve week on week
  • Proven outcomes at Redbridge, Essex, and wider selective schools

What Parents Say

Hear from families who joined our summer revision programme in Ilford.

"The summer programme was exactly what my daughter needed. She had been preparing all year but still lacked confidence with timed papers. After two weeks at Ark, her speed improved dramatically and she went into the real exam feeling calm and ready."

A
Anjali SharmaYear 5 Mum · Daughter secured grammar school place

"I was worried the summer school would be too intense for my son, but the structure was just right. Three hours in the morning, then the rest of the day free. The daily feedback was brilliant — he knew exactly what to work on each evening."

S
Sara PatelYear 4 Mum · Son enrolled summer programme

"Ark's summer programme transformed my daughter's approach to the exam. She went from dreading past papers to actually looking forward to them. The small group size meant the tutors knew every child individually — that makes a huge difference."

L
Liyana MendisYear 6 Mum · Daughter secured grammar school place

"We joined the July block and the results were remarkable. My son's NVR score — his weakest area — improved by over 20 marks in two weeks. The tutors identified the problem immediately and worked on it specifically. I wish we had found Ark sooner."

Common Questions

The programme runs across July and August during the school summer holidays. We offer two cohort start dates — one beginning in early July and one in late July — so you can choose the block that fits your family's plans. Contact us to check exact dates and availability.
The programme is designed for children completing Year 5 (sitting the 11 Plus in September of Year 6) and for Year 6 children who need intensive revision before their exam. It is suitable for children who have been preparing throughout the year and want to sharpen their exam technique, as well as those who are joining 11 Plus preparation for the first time and need rapid structured coverage.
All four 11 Plus subjects are covered: Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Each subject is covered in daily rotation throughout the week, ensuring no subject is neglected in the run-up to the exam. Past paper practice and exam technique are incorporated into every session.
Children should bring a pencil case (pencils, pens, eraser, ruler), a water bottle, and a small snack for the short break. All papers, worksheets, and learning resources are provided by Ark Tuition — there is nothing to purchase separately. We recommend a small bag to carry any marked papers home each day.
Yes. We assess every child before the programme starts so we understand their current level. While children who have been preparing for longer will have an advantage in some areas, our tutors are experienced at working with children at different stages and will tailor the pace accordingly. A diagnostic assessment is included with every enrolment.
